What is Club Horizon?

Club Horizon is a psychosocial rehabilitation program serving adults with severe and persistent mental illness.  Club Horizon is based on the Fountain House Model which emphasizes the work ordered day.  Members receive psychosocial services through its program of meaningful work and meaningful relationships.  Members work at their own speed toward personal goals in employment,  education, housing, and socialization.

Membership Criteria

 ▪ Age 18 or older

 ▪ Resident of Wake County

 ▪ Desires membership

 ▪ Management of all medical conditions

Four Basic Rights

 Club Horizon guarantees the following:

▪ A place to belong

▪ A right to meaningful relationships

▪ A right to meaningful work

▪ A right to a place to return

Work Ordered Day

The work ordered day is from 8:30am-4:00pm, Monday thru Friday.  Members and staff work side by side in the work units to carry out the daily functions of the clubhouse.  The work unit provides a foundation for future employment efforts, and increases the members' feeling of belonging along with enhancing social and interpersonal skills.

Administrative Unit

The members of the administrative unit responsibilities include tracking daily attendance, phone reception, distributing mail, production of the newsletter, providing tours, and reach-out.

Kitchen/Snack Shop Unit

The kitchen unit's responsibilities include preparing lunch daily, grocery shopping, menu planning, and dining room and kitchen cleanup.  Lunch is offered for $1.00 per day.

The snack shop's duties include customer service, stocking and ordering products, and the general upkeep of the snack shop area.

Transitional Employment

Transitional employment is available to any member who has a desire to work.  Club Horizon assists members in finding entry-level jobs within the community.  These job placements are part-time and are usually held by members in six month increments.  Training and support are provided by Club Horizon staff throughout the placement.

Education Program

Club Horizon offers an education program and library to meet the educational needs of its members.  This program assists in readying members who wish to obtain their GED and to provide support and encouragement for those who wish to continue their education beyond high school.  The education program will offer individualized instruction in areas of interest to its members.

Thrifty Threads

Club Horizon offers an on-site thrift store for members providing clothing at an affordable price.  Thrifty Threads is stocked through donations received from the community.  Thrifty threads will also offer house-ware goods, and other miscellaneous items.
